I had the opportunity to fly Leigh-Ann and Scot down to Myrtle Beach this last weekend. They work hard and were looking for some time away on their own. I needed to go flying, and the mission came together.<\/p>\n
The flights – four legs – two on Friday and two on Sunday – went safely and very well. As usual, I see things I could have done better. The landings were in high wind. Down at Grand Strande – twice I landed on runway 5 and shortened my downwind to respect local hotels. What I should have done was go long like the jets, and set up a stabilized approach. I ended up with amateurish s turns to final. Bad form. I did not impress the tower dwellers.<\/p>\n
I always get it squared away before touchdown, but acknowledge the need to plan more fully. Fly more professionally.<\/p>\n
The rest of the flight was ice in clouds; some beautiful ice crystals suspended in -6 degree air; and smooth air at altitude. <\/p>\n
